Highlights
SCAS24 dug down deep below the surface to the challenges we need to overcome in order to make a shift towards increased survival after OHCA. After a heartfelt opening from Jenni Minto MSP, Lisa MacInnes reminded us that the OHCA project is about lives not targets. Dr Gareth Evans gave pointers for navigating end of life decision making before Susan Gardner from Save a Life for Scotland introduced the concept of CARe Zones - bespoke, council-level data-led OHCA response planning.
Val McDowall introduced Gregor and Judy Newton who helped us celebrate impressive work to support the chain of survival. A series of the ever popular Flash Talks was followed by lunch. In the afternoon Dr Ben Leung gave an explanation of mathematical modelling to help PAD placement and Ben Beaumont from Daysix demonstrated the PADmap web portal concept. RCUK gave an update of their work, and introduced ‘Resus Ready’ followed by a panel discussion on technological Innovation and OHCA. We finished the day with an intensivist’s view of OHCA from Dr Stuart Gillon, and description of the emerging Save a Life for Scotland Recovery conversation with Dr Vicky Joshi. Michael Dickson, CEO of the Scottish Ambulance Service ended proceedings with a call to action.
